In a milestone moment for one of the city’s most cherished Islamic institutions, the Nurul Islam Centre celebrates 50 years of spiritual guidance, educational excellence, and community growth.
Founded on 16 May 1975 (4th Jamada-al-Awwal 1395 AH) with the laying of its foundation stone “to the Glory of Allah,” the Centre has grown far beyond its humble beginnings as a local masjid. Over five decades, it has expanded to include a Hifdh class, Madrasah, Nursery & Pre-School, and a full-fledged Muslim School that evolved into a Girls’ School — all rooted in Islamic values and community upliftment.
What began as a single place of prayer now stands as a vibrant hub of learning and life. With two community halls, residential flats, and a plaza that fosters both commerce and connection, the Nurul Islam Centre has become an enduring landmark of faith and unity in the southern suburbs.
To honour this golden anniversary, the Centre is planning a community event and the release of a special 50th anniversary commemorative magazine. As part of this initiative, the public is invited to contribute to a growing database of past students, teachers, residents, business owners, volunteers, and attendees of Nurul Islam’s many departments.
Were you part of this legacy?
Whether you studied at the Madrasah, taught at the school, ran a shop in the plaza, or attended one of the many memorable events hosted over the years — the Centre wants to hear from you.
Community members are encouraged to share their memories, photographs, documents, and personal reflections through a short online form:

Submissions will help shape the anniversary event and contribute to a rich historical record that celebrates not only the Centre’s past — but also the generations it has inspired.
